{"id":1075,"date":"2016-08-20T22:04:27","date_gmt":"2016-08-20T22:04:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/harlawacademy.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?p=1075"},"modified":"2016-08-20T22:04:27","modified_gmt":"2016-08-20T22:04:27","slug":"15th-19th-august-back-to-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.harlawacademy.org\/option1\/2016\/08\/20\/15th-19th-august-back-to-school\/","title":{"rendered":"15th-19th August: Back to school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I commented on\u00a0good news around the building works and SQA results, I also mentioned\u00a0bad news around staffing issues.\u00a0\u00a0This week, under blue skies and sunshine, we welcomed\u00a0teaching staff and pupils back to school.\u00a0 It was a really encouraging start with our pupils\u00a0showing attachment to\u00a0their school by wearing their uniforms.\u00a0 Our seniors pupils have been\u00a0brilliant buddies to the new S1s and overall people have got straight into their work and done well.\u00a0 I held a set of assemblies looking at the past present and future of the school and this is summarised here\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/harlawacademy.aberdeen.sch.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Newsletter-August-2016.doc\">Newsletter August 2016<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I cannot emphasise enough the importance of the work we are taking forward with the City Council and the City Centre masterplan.\u00a0 This has the potential to offer\u00a0our pupils meaningful curriculum links and real job prospects for the next 40 years.\u00a0 It\u00a0could provide them with a place to live and work long after they have left school.\u00a0 I attended 3 meetings around this on the first week and already it has delivered opportunities &#8211; on Monday 20 pupils will attend a session looking at success and marginal gains led by Judy Murray.\u00a0 We are currently planning an event for\u00a0September which will be a marketplace setting out aspects of the city centre masterplan and\u00a0promoting jobs and opportunities with the City Council and in the City Centre.\u00a0 Parents\u00a0asked if we could\u00a0run a careers evening\u00a0&#8211;
