#secureyourfuture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Improvement Framework identifies the following priorities:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Improvement in attainment, particularly in literacy and numeracy;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Closing the attainment gap between the most and least disadvantaged children;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Improvement in children and young people\u2019s health and wellbeing; and<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Improvement in employability skills and sustained, positive school leaver destinations for all young people;<\/p>\n<p>Over the session I will come back to each of these priorities but in this blog I want to focus\u00a0on one piece of work we are doing in respect of the final one.<\/p>\n<p>On the evening of 28th September\u00a0we will have\u00a0over 40 City Centre employers in the hall to discuss employment opportunities.\u00a0 It is intended to be much more than a normal careers fair.\u00a0 It is very much focussed on\u00a0our local employment opportunities\u00a0&#8211; in short it is an event aimed at linking local employers\u00a0with their local school.\u00a0 One session starts at 6.00pm and a second session will run at 7.00pm.\u00a0 Each session will start with a very brief presentation in the main hall.<\/p>\n<p>In the lead up to the evening we will be working with pupils to help them identify their employability skills.\u00a0 Families\u00a0can help us with this by speaking to youngsters about examples of the skills people need\u00a0in the workplace.\u00a0 The &#8216;I can&#8217; statements on pages 16 and 17 of the Career Education standard offer a summary of some of these skills\u00a0https:\/\/www.educationscotland.gov.uk\/Images\/CareerEducationStandard0915_tcm4-869208.pdf<\/p>\n<p>The event\u00a0will formally launch a\u00a0partnership between Harlaw Academy and Aberdeen City Council &#8211;\u00a0one of the largest, most\u00a0diverse and most stable employers\u00a0in the City at present &#8211; http:\/\/www.aberdeencity.gov.uk\/services\/JobsOnline\/Default.aspx<\/p>\n<p>It will also formally\u00a0promote the City Centre master plan &#8211; a set of major developments (and job opportunities) planned for the City Centre over the next 30 years &#8211; further information at http:\/\/www.aberdeencity.gov.uk\/council_government\/shaping_aberdeen\/City_Centre_Masterplan_Consultation_Material.asp<\/p>\n<p>Many of the companies involved in the developments or likely to benefit from the transformation of the City centre will be\u00a0at Harlaw\u00a0to speak with our pupils.\u00a0 These will be our local employers and they want to speak with\u00a0Harlaw pupils and families before speaking to any others.\u00a0 Indeed, if they see how great our pupils are they may\u00a0not need to speak with others as they will\u00a0come to Harlaw for\u00a0their future workforce.\u00a0 I hope pupils and families will come out in force, and well prepared, for #secureyourfuture on 28th September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Improvement Framework identifies the following priorities: \u2022 Improvement in attainment, particularly in literacy and numeracy;
