5C2 – week ending 30th August

This week we completed the pupil notes on the topic Functions & Graphs. We finished Chapter 4 – Trigonometric Graphs & Equations. This can also be found on the Mymaths website at – A Level – Core 2 – Trigonometry 1 / 2. The class have been advised to learn the exact values table (or the triangles which lead on to this) in their notes. This is important in order to tackle a number of non-calculator questions in the final exam as these regularly crop up. For next week the class needs to have completed all the exercises in Chapter 4 – obviously anyone needing assistance with any aspect can get help from me before school, at lunchtimes and after school. Pupils should get into the habit of regularly looking back over their notes to ensure that they have fully & properly understood how to tackle the work.

The class were issued with a homework covering Chapter 4 with a few questions revising the Straight Line topic as well. The deadline for this is Tuesday 3rd September.

The pupils were informed that the date for the minimum competence NAB would be the week beginning 30th September and that a practice NAB would be issued prior to this and fully gone over.

4B4 – week ending 30th August

The class were all issued with a summary of the topics in each Unit of Mathematics – National 4 and advised to look over this regularly so that they are aware of the work covered as well as the expectation for them to know how to do the different aspects.

This week we were dealing with geometric skills relating to circumference, area and volume having finished the Gradients work of last week. The pupils were reminded that many aspects of this was revision of work covered in S1 and S2 and is located on the MyMaths website under Library – Shape – Area & Perimeter, as well as Shape – 2D & 3D Shapes.

The class were informed that the first Unit (Expressions & Formulae) in National 4 Mathematics will be tested the week beginning 16th September. A calculator is required for this.

The class had been given a homework on the Mymaths website (Trigonometry – Missing Sides) with a deadline of Thursday 29th August for completion. The work is listed under Library – Shape – Trigonometry (this was revision of work done in S3). The majority of the class completed this albeit with some difficulty and I will be able to plan further revision on this at a later date.

3A6 – week ending 30th August

This week we continued the topic Scale Drawing and practiced drawing Scale Drawings especially using angle measurers. The class were reminded of the need for accuracy and the acceptable tolerances of measurements in tests. The class have almost all completed the Scale Drawing homework on the MyMaths website.

2B1 – week ending 30th August

This week we continued and finished the topic Proportion covering Inverse Proportion and then Mixed Proportion. The class have all completed the Unitary Proportion homework on the MyMaths website.

The class have now started the topic Ratio which is linked to Proportion and can be found on the MyMaths website under Library – Number – Ratio & Proportion.

1W2 – week ending 30th August

The class were continuing with the topic Number. We have been using a mixture of resources covering mental arithmetic and also Magic Squares. 

The class have all completed their first homework on the MyMaths website and this was then followed with another homework which was submitted on Friday. Almost everyone has been working hard and if anyone completes the assigned work, there is always extension work available to stretch any individual. I regularly inform the class of which question they should have reached if they are working hard, and we go over the answers frequently with my marking jotters as often as I can.

4B2 – week ending 30th August

The class have been issued with the Hodder National 5 Maths textbook. This week we have been working on fractions, pupils should have finished p189 – p196 from the textbook.

Homework for Wednesday 4th September is p170 Ex 19.

Advanced Higher Mechanics

We have finished Relative Motion and will continue to work through Projectiles on Thursday.

Please check at school for Unit Assessment Dates, so we can plan our dates around them.

We will not meet on Tuesday 27th August because of the University Open Day.
