2B1 – week ending 5th July

Mr Sullivan’s 2nd year class covered work on Integers and other basic number work using the mnemonic BOMDAS (with two homeworks on this issued on the Mymaths website).

The class then moved on to the topic of Triangles & Quadrilaterals with additional work on Angles (Alternate, Corresponding and Vertically Opposite) as well as Areas of  quadrilaterals also included. The class have been directed to the Mymaths website for extra work to re-inforce the work covered in class.

The class has been instructed to learn the formulae for the various areas of quadrilaterals, and to remember the definitions of the different types of triangles and quadrilaterals.

3A6 – Week ending 5th July

Mr Sullivan’s 3rd year class has been revising basic number work using the mnemonic BOMDAS (with a homework on this issued on the Mymaths website) and have covered other essential skills necessary for future topics.

We have covered Standard Form/Scientific Notation and pupils have been directed to the Mymaths website to ensure they have understood this. Homework covering this and other calculations was issued – due on 19th June.

Since then the class went on to the topic of Pythagoras again the Mymaths website details how to set the work out for pupils to revise and work through for extra practice. The homework on this was due on Mon 1st July.

5C2 – Week ending 5th July

Mr Sullivan’s Higher Class will have completed the topics Straight Line and Sequences – Recurrence Relations. We have started the topic Functions & Graphs and will have gotten through to Exercise 2I. We will continue with this after the summer.

Pupils have been directed to work from the Essential Skills chapter which they should be able to do as there is a lot of algebraic manipulation in many of the topics.

The class had the homework on Recurrence Relations due to be handed in on Tues 2nd July.

Previous homeworks on Straight Line 1 – due on Thurs 13th June and Straight Line 2 – due on Fri 21st June.

Pupil notes on the topics mentioned above should have been completed and thus far Functions & Graphs should be completed up to Page 6.

4B4 – Week ending 5th July

Mr Sullivan’s 4th year class will have finished most of the work from the National 4 – Expressions & Formula topic  in particular Number Patterns; Simplifying; Factorising and Evaluating an Expression. 

We also revised some of the work covered at the end of 3rd year on Similar Shapes.

Much of this work can be found on the Mymaths website to which the pupils have access. To date, the class has had 2 homeworks on the Mymaths website – Similar Triangles and Simplifying.

Mechanics – 26th June

We have finished Vectors and will start Relative Motion on Thursday 27th June. The course questions for the vectors unit are due in after the summer holidays. The questions can be found at the back of the Vectors Notes booklet.

Cults Academy Sports Day is on Tuesday 2nd July, so we will not meet then.

4B2 – 26th June

Mrs Lawrence’s 4th year class are working on vectors. By the end of this week pupils should have finished Ex 13.5 from their vectors booklets, some of this will need to be done at home.

The homework sheet ‘Mixed Exercise 2′ is due in on Wednesday 3rd July. Please attempt this well before the deadline, so that you can seek help with any questions that you are stuck with. Remember, help is available from me before school, at lunchtimes and after school.

5B1 – 26th June

Mrs Lawrence’s Higher class will have finished Sequences by the end of this week. Chapter 5 should be finished by the beginning of next week.

We will work on some Essential Skills next week, these can be found in the Heinemann Higher Maths textbook from p331 onwards.

5E1 – Thursday 20th June

Today we will finish Recurrence Relations.
Homework on this topic (Homework sheet 1-9) is due in on Thursday 27th June.

We will also start working on Functions & Graphs.
Today will be a review of previous knowledge of functions and an introduction to the topic.
